Lately in Southern California

First, I have to say that I cannot believe it is April already. How are we more than a quarter of the way into the year?

Second, today’s post is inspired by Postcards from Rachel. I recently discovered her “lately” posts and loved them, so I wanted to do one of my own. So here it goes!

+ I’ve recently discovered a collection of great blogs and I’ve mentioned them in a few other posts, but just in case you missed it, check out Esther and Jacob, Comme une Française, and Postcards from Rachel.

+ I started studying Japanese in addition to Mandarin. When I initially chose Mandarin, I was divided between it and Japanese. My heart wanted to learn Japanese but my head insisted on Mandarin, so to end my internal debate, I decided to study both simultaneously.

+ Jazz and Bossa Radio recently asked if Teen Jazz would be interested in partnering with them to broadcast our podcast online as part of their Internet radio station. We said yes!

+ My husband and I are releasing a best of CD together. It will only be available at live shows, but we’re pretty excited about it.

+ Random conversation I had with a fellow language learner in French on tenses because so far, I haven’t really needed to conjugate in Chinese (the level I’m at). When I said imperatif, my friend misunderstood and thought I said aperitif.
Friend: “No, you don’t want that.”
Me (realizing the misunderstanding): “Sure I do.”
Friend: “Maybe you’re right, some champagne.”
Me: “Yeah, you need one to do the other.”
Friend: “That’s true.”

+ A new word for the Eurodictionary from my brother as he described our family. Importapean: English. A word to describe someone who has moved from Europe to the US.

So, what’s new with you?
