M and I are complete and utter foodies, but we try to refrain from going out to often because 1) it’s a lot healthier to eat at home, 2) I love cooking and 3) it can get pretty expensive to eat out frequently.
Because we don’t dine out often, we’ve grown more selective with the places we eat at, aiming to enjoy some of the most delicious local eateries in our area by planning out our sorties rather than going out on a whim. But this most recent discovery was actually an exception to the rule, and it just goes to show you how enjoyable an experience breaking the “rules” can be when it works out in your favor.
Rockfire Grill | Amazing Hamburgers in Orange County
Rockfire Grill is a “chain” restaurant with two locations – one in Mission Viejo and another in Santa Ana, California. We were out and about in the Mission Viejo area, and so we stopped by at this location. OC Weekly wrote that they have created OC’s Next Great Burger, and I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t agree.
Because you guys, their burgers are not only incredible, but they also have a selection of delicious flatbreads, pizzas, and salads that leave you savoring each and every bite. We went twice so I could write this review just to try out some of the other items on the menu (and also because we couldn’t wait to go again).
Our first trip, we started with the burgers. I went for the Texas BBQ while M opted for the Fire Roasted Pepper and neither disappointed. Accompanied by seasoned fries, the burgers were served in a flat bread of sorts rather than the traditional bun. They were each packed with perfectly cooked Angus beef, cheese, and fresh vegetables (as well as their respective ingredients).
We were impressed with the quality of the food and hardly a word was spoken as we enjoyed our meal. We vowed right then and there to return as quickly as possible – we were about to leave for our Caribbean cruise – and held up that very agreement, heading back to our new favorite spot shortly after returning.
On our second trip, M ordered the same thing (if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it) while I switched to to the Green Onion Stuffed Flatbread. We also shared the Zattar & Hummus Focaccia. While it was a little more food than either of us could eat, it was worth trying everything we ordered. The stuffed flatbread rivaled the burgers in flavor and I would think it impossible to answer if you asked me which I preferred. You’ll just have to try it for yourself.
We were told that they are getting ready to make a few changes to their menu, adding new burgers and such, so we’ll definitely update this review once we have the opportunity to taste test the new items.
Now, we’ll just have to make it back for the desserts and pizza!
